Hackers are phishing, but not in the way one would think. Hackers that were traced back to the Russian government attempted to use fake emails to hack into the Pasco County voting system. They posed as VR Systems, a company that provides voting materials to the Florida voting polls. The chief of voting, Richard Lynn, said he was shocked that he was one of the people targeted in this hacking ring, but was glad he did not open it. He identified the email as fake by looking at the email address itself. The address set up on Yahoo, and that was a red flag for Lynn. He immediately reported it to IT and they ran a test and sent out an alert to the rest of their systems.
